Zebra Rocks on Mount Kilimanjaro
Zebra Rock comprises large volcanic formations located along the Marangu trail. The rocks have stripes akin to the patterns observed on zebras. It is among the premier attractions to visit after arriving to Horombo Camp. Zebra rocks, predominantly composed of lava cliffs, were formed as mineral-laden rainwater coursed over the rocks, resulting in partial white or black discoloration in certain regions.
The rocks constitute the destination for an acclimatization trek. On the six-day Marangu route, climbers may opt to ascend to the cliffs for acclimatization to the elevated altitude before returning to the Horombo huts.

Zebra Rocks are situated along the trail to Mawenzi Campground, approximately a thirty-minute ascent from Horombo Huts.
The path to Kibo huts is also in proximity. Zebra rocks, akin to Horombo huts, are situated at the boundary delineating the moorland and alpine desert zones of the mountain. The area is inhabited by small animals, such as birds and rodents, and has occasional rainfall.

DAY 01: TRAVEL TO MARANGU GATE; ASCENT TO MANDARA HUT
Following breakfast and orientation, proceed to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate, approximately an hour’s journey, to register and commence the ascent. Proceed through the rainforest to arrive at the Mandara camp. A side journey to Maundi Crater, encompassing Northern Tanzania and Kenya, is advisable. Seek Colobus monkeys, towering Eucalyptus trees, and various creatures in the rainforest.

Upon departing the rainforest glades, you traverse a path across the expansive moorlands until you arrive at the Horombo camp. Stunning vistas are observable from the summits of Kibo and Mawenzi. Observe the substantial groundsels and lobelias. The consequences of the elevation may begin to manifest.

DAY 03: TREK FROM HOROMBO HUT TO PARK GATE, RETURN TO MOSHI
Following breakfast, we traverse the moorland on a gradual descent towards the Mandara Hut. Proceed along the path that slopes downward through the verdant forest until you arrive at the Marangu National Park entrance. Lower altitudes may be characterized by dirt and dampness. Trekking poles and gaiters will prove advantageous. It is probable that there will be sufficient attire: shorts and t-shirts (retain rain gear and warmer clothing readily available). Upon your arrival at Marangu village, a car will be present to transport you back to Moshi town, approximately one hour distant.
